Release of the Treasury’s climate-related transition planning voluntary guidance welcomed in joint statement
The Energy Efficiency Council (the EEC) joins seven leading industry bodies in signing a joint statement on the Treasury’s climate-related transition planning guidance.
On 24 August 2026 the Treasury released its Climate-related transition planning Voluntary Guidance as part of the Sustainable Finance Roadmap.
The EEC has joined seven leading industry bodies in signing a joint statement welcoming the Treasury’s guidance.
The joint statement describes how climate-related transition planning allows organisations to prepare for, invest, and compete in a net-zero economy, ultimately supporting Australia’s long-term economic resilience.
Signatories back the Australian Government’s leadership in ensuring that organisations have support and information to plan for the transition to a net-zero economy.
“The Australian Government is one of few jurisdictions globally that has issued local guidance on climate-related transition planning. We commend the collaborative approach to developing this guidance, aimed at ensuring interoperability with global frameworks while tailoring it to the Australian context.” the statement said.
In the statement, signatories encourage:
- the uptake of transition planning, taking full advantage of the guidance in doing so;
- the disclosure of transition plans to increase transparency, assist capital deployment from investors and signal where policy reform could support progress; and
- the Australian Government to develop policies which will further enable corporate action on climate transition.
The statement also notes that as Australia moves through the transition more clarity on the expectations of regulators, investors and other stakeholders may be required.
